Located between Nice and Monaco, on the east side of Cap Ferrat, Beaulieu-sur-Mer occupies a privileged position on the Côte d’Azur. In Latin “bellus locus” means “pleasant place to live in“, the commune is part of the golden triangle (Beaulieu-sur-Mer, Saint-Jean-Cap-Ferrat, Villefranche-sur-Mer). A real seaside resort, its beaches lined with a wide variety of exotic plants such as “La Petite Afrique” or “La Baie des Fourmis“, reflect the ideal microclimate of Beaulieu-sur-Mer. Its marina is one of the most popular on the French Riviera, with nearly 800 boats. But Beaulieu-sur-Mer is undoubtedly known for its unique architectural heritage that echoes its motto “Peace in beauty“.
At the beginning of the 20th century, many sumptuous villas were built in Beaulieu sur Mer, most of them facing south, offer a panoramic view and an idyllic living environment. In the 1990s, the dynamism of the municipality intensified and several hotels were transformed into condominiums or replaced by residential buildings in response to the increase in property prices. From 2005, the famous Villa Eiffel built by Joseph Durandy was bought by businessmen wishing to revive the tourist activity of Beaulieu to make it a dynamic commune.
But the heritage of Beaulieu-sur-Mer is also known for its exceptional villas such as Villa Kérylos, classified as a historical monument. The villa is a perfect reconstruction of a Greek house from the Hellenistic period built by the architect Emmanuel Pontremoli. Located in a dominant position on a rocky promontory, it offers a breath-taking view of the Mediterranean.
The villa of May, for its part, was built in 1826 and then totally restored a few years ago to accommodate the intermunicipal conservatory of Music.
