Town house in a castle.

Nice, Chateau de la Tour: Town house within the neo Gothic Chateau de la Tour.

Exceptionally rare town house with garden within the grounds of the fabled Chateau de la Tour. A haven of peace, close to the sea, the beaches and Nice’s city centre.

The town house of 210m2 has a private garden of 300m2 and two terraces. Inside it has a very large double living room with skylights and high ceilings, three big bedrooms, an office, a large fully equipped kitchen, two bathrooms, a grand entrance hall and a cellar. It has two parking places in the Chateau grounds and a garage. It would be possible to install a swimming pool.

This is a peaceful house in the residential area of Les Baumettes. The garden is delightful and romantic and has a small view of the nearby sea. Altogether the property has enormous potential.

The Chateau de la Tour is built in an unusual neo-Gothic style at the summit of the Beaumettes residential area. It was constructed around 1850 on the ruins of the former Beaumettes watch tower for a Nice merchant, Maurice Audiffret. It was then sold to Count Joseph Caravadossi d’Asprement. The Count further developed the property in 1879. His son married an American heiress, Elizabeth de Groot and after he and she died, her daughter and sister lived there until the late 1920’s. Although the external structure of the chateau is definitely neo-gothic, the interior mixes Spanish and Moorish styles. The gardens are decorated with statues.

The chateau is now divided into apartments and is under the management of a small owners’ association.
