Non-resident foreigners, residents and French expatriates acquired more than 17.7 billion euros of real estate indicates the presentation of BNP Paribas International Buyers, in the 11th edition of its Observatory of the market for property buyers in France.

A market that grew in 2018 (+6%), particularly for resident foreigners (+8%).

A market that is stabilizing

After several years of growth, the market for non-resident foreign buyers stabilized at a high level (+0.4%).

At the national level and despite the Brexit, the British remain the leading buyers of real estate in 2018 in terms of number of transactions.

On the other hand, and still at national level for the average purchase amount per transaction classification, the Norwegians (€612,000), Swedes (€501,000) and Danes (€479,000) are the top three nationalities.

An unequal geographical distribution

Unsurprisingly, Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (the famous French Riviera for Northern Europeans) remains at the top of the ranking with 20% of transactions carried out by non-residents, followed by Occitania (15%), New Aquitaine and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes. But it is in Ile-de-France that the strongest growth is recorded, with a 15% increase.
